Is a stay at home business your dream too?

To me, the freedom of a stay at home business is unsurpassable. I have always avoided nine-to-five jobs like the pest. Hence, this web site. Do you also dream of an Internet home based business?

Let me clarify things. This page is a short digression from the main theme of this web site, the Mediterranean diet. So, if you landed here by mistake, click to go back to the Mediterranean diet home page.

But if you are dreaming to start a stay at home business, you might want to read about my Internet experience, not because I am so important, but because it could clarify things for you.

What I did for a living

I used to work as a free lance translator from English and German into Catalan, my mother tongue. I worked from home, of course.

First, I worked from my home in Barcelona, where I grew up. You guessed it, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. For a while, I lived in Berlin, and I took my translation jobs with me. I even translated a couple of books on the tiny Balearic island of Formentera. Happy times, really!

At the beginning, I loved it, and I translated many books, lots of American films, and you name it. It was exactly what I wanted to do.

However, over time, the trouble with such a stay at home business is that you translate a certain amount of words, you get a certain amount of money, and that's it. No leveraging.

With an stay at home business based on your own web site, it is different. For instance, you write a cooking article, or publish a certain recipe, the copyright is yours, and you monetize it more than once, and certainly more than twice.

The whole internet home business idea, as I understand it, is to write useful high quality content and monetize it as many times as possible.

If I can do it, and my first language isn't English, anyone can do it. I am aware that my English is far from perfect, but as my niche is the Mediterranean diet, my visitors are willing to forgive my language mistakes. I can give them a perspective of the Mediterranean diet and cuisines that a non-Mediterranean will never be able to.

My point is that everyone has a specific niche she or he is knowledgeable or passionate about to write a web site that works.

What I do now

So, after a while I started researching alternatives. The Internet was born and it was a natural path for me to follow this trend.

Apart from this food web site, which is new, I have a joint venture with a friend of mine. I am the webmaster of www.theartofcalligraphy.com. It has appeared in the first page of Google results for that web site's main keyword for years. This means free traffic, the first step in building your stay at home business.

Frankly, that would've been impossible without the guidance of the Site Build It team. Because what did I know about Google or Yahoo search results, and keywords or page rank when I started building my first web site? Nothing at all.

In a way, Site Build It webmasters are like spoiled children. Whenever there is an important Internet development that affects our stay at home business, we find out right away without moving a finger.

In fact, now it is more important than ever to have a super-host that cares about your success like Site Build It! because the Internet is constantly changing. It's amazing how its founder and CEO, Mr Evoy, participates in our helpful webmaster forum like anyone else, as enthusiastic as the first day.

With the Site Build It! forums, you are never on your own.

To illustrate my points, I have added to this page what we call SBI-TV. Yes, really, a TV!

Take the 3-minute Site Build It! Tour

Stay at home business, sbi tv. This video tour shows how building a stay at home business with SBIt! works.

And if you like video clips, watch this one from a Site Build It! webmaster. It is fun.
