A simple bread rubbed with tomato and seasoned with oil and salt, our popular pa amb tomàquet, accompanied with a bunch of grapes, makes a humble but exquisite breakfast or afternoon snack. The sweet and savory contrast between a country-style bread seasoned with olive oil and salt, and a few figs is superb in its simplicity.

A vegetable dip like allioli mellowed with quinces from the colder mountain regions of Catalonia is stunningly good. A vegetable recipe like the Majorcan tombet is a popular vegetarian dish for the fall that's little known outside the Majorca borders.
